CarbrookeHeritage News September 2014

Helen Riley presented another fascinating talk on ‘Carbrooke Commanderie and The Knights Hospitallers’ on 10th September at 2pm. We chose this time, to enable those unable to make an evening meeting to attend.

We were able to imagine how some of the buildings of the Commanderie might have looked when they were first built as we had an amazing scale model, created by a local Carbrooke resident. No one can be sure exactly how buildings did look, and it would have changed over time. The model was created using the archaelogical report, from the time the school was surveyed prior to the first stages of extensions (1990’s), and with personal experience in the building and joinery trade. The model has been meticulously created, even to the shaping of the beams. We hope to have it on permanent display eventually, when there is a suitable and safe position for it.

Next meeting: Wednesday 22nd October 7pm in the Village Hall Committee room. All welcome to our informal meetings.

Still interested in hearing any local family memories from World War 1.
