Carbrooke Heritage News July 2013

At the moment, it is the lull before the storm, we have a number of events coming up; – a Heritage Group Meeting, The Family History Workshop, and Village Fete, but I cannot report on them yet! So as we are at a point of being ‘between things’ I thought of the name of the group ‘Carbrooke History and Heritage.’

Quite a number of people consider history dull and irrelevant. Perhaps they didn’t enjoy the subject at school, and the effect has lasted. In my opinion, there is so much called ‘history’ that can be studied and discovered, and covers just about any subject, how can it be ‘boring’? We can also use history, either with in our families, locality, country or internationally to learn from our mistakes, and encourage us to work for a better world.

The other facet to our group is ‘HERITAGE’, which means using what we have from the past to look to the future. We can use this principle to create a fantastic community spirit in Carbrooke. We may be from different backgrounds, but we all benefit from living in this Parish, and can be proud of it.

Carbrooke Fete is proof that these things can work if we put in the effort.

Our next event will be a Documents Evening in the school on 11th July at 7pm. We are inviting anybody with any interesting photos, documents, newpaper cuttings, or artefacts to bring them along, so that the Heritage Group can log them/ take note of them or perhaps copy them, to enable us to build up a record of what is about.

All welcome. Refreshments will be served.
