Carbrooke Heritage News: March 2013

Carbrooke  Heritage Group

Following our meeting on 13th February, we now have quite a busy calendar. So here are some dates for your diary.

27th April (Saturday) we will be hosting a coffee morning at 10am in Carbrooke School. We invite you for tea, coffee and cake. Bring your Carbrooke memories along to share and preserve. This will be a great occasion for a get together and chat.

9th May Jan Godfrey will be giving a talk on ‘Carbrooke School and links with the Americans during World War 2’. This follows an amazing turn up of letters Jan wrote aged 5, and discovered in an American Museum!

20th June Mark Ward will be running a Family History Workshop, and explaining how to go about researching your ancestry. Anybody with an interest is welcome to come along, if you have already made a start, come along anyway and you may get some more research tips, or the chance to share information.

22nd June Carbrooke Fete. We will be hosting a stall, with some of our items and reference material available to peruse, and will also run a quiz or game. We also hope we may be able arrange a spectacular display for the afternoon, more details later.

11th July Documents Evening. (school), We invite anybody with any interesting documents – photos, house deeds, or anything else of interest, that we can log and copy.

September – date to be confirmed, (school) Helen Riley, will give a talk on the ‘Knights Hospitallers’ and their connection with Carbrooke Commanderie.

Everyone welcome to come along to any or all of these events.

We are still hoping to start the ‘Moment in time’ project: Take a photo of your house – even better with its residents in the picture too! Perhaps you would like to write a few line about your house. Bring it along to any of the above events, so we can start logging the Carbrooke buildings.

Next meeting 16th April 7pm in the school.
