Carbrooke Heritage News: December 2013

If you have been in the Church during November, you may have noticed the Remembrance display, dedicated to those who fought to bring about peace and democracy in the world. Democracy and freedom of speech may not always bring peace, and peace does not necessarily mean democracy, so we must honour our forebears and continue working for both.

Carbrooke Heritage Group is starting on a project to discover, the effects of the wars (particularly WW1) on Carbrooke, as we take part in the national centenary commemoration of the First World War, which begins during 2014. Did the local people get more or less, peace and democracy as a result, did it have an effect on agriculture and industry or the population and its makeup.

We will also try and discover more of all the Carbrooke men who took part, not just those who died, and the effects of the war on the survivors, their families, and the area in general. There is a list of thanks dedicated to all of them, in the Church. If anybody would like to get involved, has information/is a descendant or relative, please contact us.

With Traditional Christmas festivities arranged, why not support the village groups by going along, having fun, making new friends, and building a great community.

All welcome to any of our group meetings.
